HUN 4936: Research in Community Based Sustainable Food Systems and Protected Agriculture Techniques. Undergraduate research is engaged learning in a number of respects. Welcome. This transdisciplinary Classroom Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) course allows students to become part of a diverse research team, collecting publishable data on all aspects of an active sustainable food system.
In the context of an experiential learning course, the team worked with the Harrisburg Senators minor league baseball team to research the Latino and Hispanic communities in the greater Harrisburg area and to develop recommendations to assist the Senators in improving relationships and engagement with these communities. To be considered eligible for this opportunity, applicants must verify with their professor that their project qualifies as community-based research and indicate this by checking the appropriate box on the application form. Fifteen awards will be dedicated to Indigenous students and two awards will be dedicated for community-based research projects. Up to 2 additional awards will be dedicated to students working on community-based research projects with a University of Manitoba professor. Some programs focus on course-based undergraduate research experiences, or CUREs. Undergraduate Research is Engaged Learning. Model Programs: Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CRE or CURE) Course-based research experiences (CREs; also known as Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences or CUREs) have dramatically improved the reach and impact of research experiences for undergraduates, especially for freshmen and sophomores.
It is a form of both experience-based learning and active learning, and it can engage students with contexts, including the social and civic.
