The CCS Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program provides a stipend to support CCS students in summer research projects working in a faculty-led research group at UCSB. In addition, over 56% of UCSB undergraduates work with faculty, assisting them on innovative research in the humanities, social sciences, arts, and sciences. The Research Mentorship Program and the Summer Research Academies allow participants to deep-dive into an interdisciplinary subject while discovering new knowledge through university-level research. Undergraduate research is a signature feature of the UC Santa Barbara experience. UCSB Students Summer Sessions offers over 600 courses, including online courses, and works with faculty and departments to develop unique learning experiences in special courses and programs well suited to the summer term. The Research Mentorship Program is a competitive, six-week summer program that engages qualified, high-achieving high school students from all over the world in interdisciplinary, hands-on, university-level research. Students have the opportunity to initiate their own research projects with faculty mentorship. This experience is perhaps the most effective means of training students in the sciences. Freshman Summer Start Program The Summer Scholars Program allows students to choose two undergraduate courses and gain a comprehensive introduction to UC Santa Barbara.
